How come rap artist Dr. Dre can use the "n" word on his multi-million selling albums and win a MOBO award, yet when I used it at my son's t-ball game I was asked to leave?
Once again, it's one law for the rich and another for the rest of us.
Just opened up an early Christmas Gift. The CD "I Dreamed A Dream" by Susan Boyle. Yes, that is the lady who came in second, but should have won the British competition on the show featuring Simon Cowell. Record producers keep complaining that they aren't selling enough albums, because people are illegally copying music. If they put out better music such as this album it would sell. This album has sold over two million copies in less than one month.
If you want to buy a good album go out and purchase "I Dreamed A Dream" by Susan Boyle. You won't be disappointed.
Hey, I'm sure that "I Dreamed A Dream" is really cool. But I came across an even better one the other day. It's called - get this - "In-A-Godda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly. Way cool.
I just read where the city of Jefferson's Chamber of Commerce web site is being paid for by a grant from the Central Iowa Tourism Department. It seems Jefferson can't even have a web site without expecting outside taxpayers to foot the bill. Maybe this is what Rick Morain is hoping for.

Rick - I think you may have to look into creating a separate blog to deal with Diamond Dave and his rantings. You may also want to look into a defining blog for the health care thing. Just thinking. Everyone who posts on these issues has a valid point but takes away from others that may want to contribute to this site but will not because everyone is arguing religion or healthcare.
For years I have been wondering, "who is this Brad Pitt guy and who the f@#k is this Angie chick?" Everybody talks about them. Everybody wants to know what they are doing. My question is who are these people? Should I be concerned about them? Do they need my help? Do they need help, period? Should I buy them a mood ring to so they can get back on track? Should I just blow them off and continue to make millions of dollars on my own and call them the losers that they are? I am upset about this entire state of affairs, and need to know just what it would take to get these worries to go away.

I don't know about that, but I heard yesterday that the Super Bowl was just around the corner. Imagine my disappointment when I walked to the end of my street, only to find a dog vacating under a Ford Escort.
In a bit of a nostalgic mood. One of my favorite memories from the old pink school was that being a curious sort, I always ended up sitting by the window. Better than that was being next to the radiator in the winter. Ahh the joys of melting crayons on that screaming hot pile of painted steel. Lest not forget laying the metal band of an old wooden pencil on that same radiator and then touching it to the neck of the kid in front of you. I am certain I did not invent this torture, just passed on what was once done to me. How I miss that landmark.
I had forgotten all about those old radiators. Wow! I drove by the middle school the other day and happened to notice an air conditioner in every window. I certainly don't remember that! One unit was larger than the rest, so out of curiosity I parked the car and got out to investigate. Guess what? That over-sized air conditioning unit was in the teachers' lounge.
Who says doing your Christmas shopping early avoids the crush? Last year, I did mine a full 12 months in advance, and the shops were just as busy as ever.

Get this - DeKalb county just outside of Atlanta wants to charge $250.00 if "Jaws of Life" are required to extricate you and save your life. Wouldn't you think that this should be included in your county taxes? "County officials say the new charge will add $750,000 to county coffers." This would mean that they have to use the "Jaws of Life" 8 times a day, which they don't. I don't live in DeKalb, but wonder what you guys think of this.
The "long count" thing is important. We are too short-term oriented.
Peripherally, we need to stop our addiction to oil. Brazil (who no longer imports oil) was more dependent on oil than us 30 yrs. ago. They made cars able to access ethanol for use when it's cheaper than oil. If we could access natural gas in addition, we could 1) help ourselves, 2) reduce the oil price marginally long term and 3) decrease funding of state-sponsored terrorist nations who fund hatred to their children.
We need more posters like Big Nasty, who obviously takes the time to research his input as opposed to the usual unintelligent drivel offered up by blog-addicted morons like Diamond Dave.

For the record...the Chiefs beat the Raiders in my last game 6-0. It took almost 3 days to finish.

Rick- after a handfull of whiskeys while watching the game form home, I am having flashback of being at the game. But I agree..the score didn't tell the story. ISU won, but really laid the wood to them.
I see where they have ascribed a new name called "flexitarian" to individuals who are generally vegetarian but occasionally splurge and eat meat. What is the point of that?
Rick: I can report that I did attend the game. We returned last Friday to DM and the temperature difference was about 70 degrees cooler. OK, maybe 70 degrees colder.
I can also report that my beer-drinking capacity has been greatly reduced by lack of practice, not a lack of trying.
When I saw the guy in full riot gear at the New Year's Eve party, I knew it was time for the cab back to the hotel. Doobie Brothers played after we left.
They also shut beer sales off at halftime, so I do remember a good portion of the actual game.
A couple less Arnaud interceptions and a better 4th and one call would have made the final margin a lttle better.
I understand that Jefferson Iowa News was represented at the Insight Bowl by our very own Braxton Hicks, who hopefully will be filing a report shortly.
Minnesota once again shows that they are better at fishing than football.

Though I am a Republican, the efforts to dismiss Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are extremely lame. Who disagrees that President Obama is "light-skinned" and doesn't sound like an "urban black."
Democrats wrongfully made a major issue of statements Sen. Trent Lott made praising Sen. Strom Thurmond for his 100th birthday 5-10 years ago. But for Pete's sake, save the outcry for something of substance.
There is little doubt that President Obama's skin color and speech benefited him with White voters. I also think his small frame helped him a lot. Face it, White America was not going to vote for someone who looks like Michael Vick. People may not like the sound of it, but racism is alive and well in the US. Plus, when it comes to voting for president...many vote based totally upon looks. Especially women voters.
Similar, in a way, people did not like the idea of a President with the last name of Huckabee. It did not matter what he did or said...he was sunk.

These were selected bcz they played less important defensive positions (1B, 3B, RF, LF) and all but Kell are middle of the road, not fringe Hall of Fame candidates. Clemente and B. Robby are the only glove men better than KH on this list
Bcz HOF inductions are becoming tougher for players, Keith was not a likely HOF candidate. My main beef is that he, like Lou Whitaker, was quickly dismissed bcz he did not garner the 5% of votes needed and was dumped to possibly be looked at in 20 years by the Veteran's Committee. He was MVP in 1979, led the league 2x in runs, & On Base %, and 1x in batting average, doubles and walks. He is the best fielding 1B of alltime. He needs both hitting & fielding to be properly considered to have a shot at the HOF.
I did not factor in KH's Seinfeld performances in any HOF considerations.

I, for one, am appalled at the insensitivity Mr. Tarkus showed when he casually compared a man of my stature to somebody on the level of Diamond Dave.
I would hope that in the future Mr. Dave would be compared to rodents, small, grubbing insects, or paramecium.
