Somebody Has To Say It

In these days of political correctness, how many times has it seemed like somebody just needs to come out and say what they're really thinking? Here's your forum to say what really needs to be said.

We need education tax credits of $3000-$4000/year so parents have a choice educationally where to send there child to school. It would save taxpayers $6000 per student, give a better education and get children out of the clutches of National Education Association social planners experimenting with our children like so many lab rats.

I am sick and tired of hearing about Tiger Woods and his pathetic, rich life. All I hear about is how his father would be rolling in his grave but you know what? He's just laying there because he's dead. This guy is marginally married to one hot babe that the rest of us would die for but he decided he didn't care, there are a lot of hot hookers and bar hostesses out there who could use some good fairway Woods. Who cares WTF happened in Florida? He's going to lose half a BILLION bucks because he couldn't keep it at home. Now it comes out he was taking HGH. I wonder what he was using that to grow?

Also, since I've been thinking about it, how many kids does Diamond Dave have? BIG HAT NO CATTLE?

Anyone who can explain what that last post means please enlighten us.

What it means is that according to ziprod, if you have a screw loose you can be a productive member of society, much like those folks that are pulled out of sandblows in Nebraska by Dachsunds with pinworm infestations.

Did you ever notice how the news media gets on a subject like a bulldog won't let go until they find something of greater interest? How many stories did you hear about Michael Jackson? Then the constant drone about H1N1, which they incorrectly billed as Swine Flu. Will that media blitz make you run to the doctor? Most people probably not. Then we had to hear about the couple, the Salahis' who attended a White House dinner without an invitation. Does that affect my life? No. Do I want to hear about it ad nauseum? No. To a lesser degree we heard about Amanda Knox who was convicted in Italy of killing her roommate. Do I know Amanda Knox? Do I want to know Amanda Knox? Not likely! Then there is Tiger Woods who has been in the spotlight since he was a little boy. He knows how to golf quite well which captures everyones imagination, but can he drive a Cadillac Escalade? No. I thought his sponsor was Buick. Can he cheat on his wife? Obviously. I knew he was married, didn't realize it was such a good looking lady, nor did I realize he had two kids. Do you take this woman, to be faithful in sickness and in health until death do you part, or until the next sex partner comes along? Why do we have to hear about this? Give me a break. Governor Mark Sanford of NC found his soul mate in Argentina. People in the spotlight just keep shooting themselves in the foot. What a waste of our time!

Any other subjects that you think the media covers too much for the common good?

One thing that's been bugging me is lobbyists having their way influencing the Senate. McCain-Feingold is our attempt to rein in influence peddling. We need to abolish the 17th Amendment and go back to state legislatures selecting our Senators.

The government giveth and the government taketh away. The government has bailed out the auto industry with loans so that they could continue to build cars. U. S. DEATHS since 2001 from car accidents totaled 383,137 or 42,571 per year. This does not count the injuries or people being maimed for life.

December 15 the government announced that they were recalling 50 million [50,000,000] blinds because since 2001 there was a total of eight deaths, one per year from children getting caught in the cords, since 2001. I would think this may bankrupt the blind companies.

Some things I just don't understand.

I think we need an mandatory retirement age for people in congress. Look at either of Iowa's two senators. Sen Grassley is 76 years old! Now, seriously, how many 76 year old men do you know that you will let them make ANY decision for you? We question if they should be allowed to drive, but let them make decisions for the entire country.

I agree with Orville Bass. My wife and I attended her company "Holiday" party this year. It is a small firm, and all of its employees are Christians. Yet, they were very careful not to use the term "Christmas". Just who were they afraid of offending?

Anonymous said...

Sometimes it is NOT the people that might be offended, but the people who are ultra-sensitive to offending people that cause the whole "holiday" party thing.

Also, when it comes to Christians...many people who call themselves Christians do not believe in God. So, do not assume they all believe the same thing. That has nothing to do with Christmas, though.

Big Nasty said...

This is the holiday season, right? Who gives a rat's a$$ what you call your party. That's when you get your bonus, right? That's when you can get a quick feel in the office Twister Game, right? I would call that a holiday party. I don't want to hear any crap out of Diamond Dave about holidays = holy days either. As I have said before, I will give my opinion but will not respond to anyone who disagrees.

my rant for 2009
Since the law and business operators have banned smoking in most any indoor place, smokers burn the root while driving. Nothing wrong with that, but since the 50's car have had ashtrays in them. Nothing p!sses me off more than to be driving along and have the car in front flick a burning root out the window and hitting my vehicle. (To the jerk that did that to me last week, sorry about the half full Mt Dew I tossed out my window that hit your hood after I passed you. I was out of full bottles or I would have donated that to you.)Road rage? Not so much. Just sick of disrespectful people not thinking of the vehicles meeting them or behind them.

My vitriol here is reserved for the educational aristocracy, who set policy, not evolution believers.

The educational elite have foisted the theory of evolution on monopoly public schools and universities for at least the last 45 years, well after the discovery of DNA and its infinite detail in 1953 should have made it a moot point. Darwin in 1860 figured it was more of a "what you see is what you get" world. It simply is not. I'd change evolution's name to the theory of Aberrations or "the theory of Quad Billion Perfect Random Mutations" ( with numeric assistance from Carroll Schaal, class of '78).

They should be ashamed for not teaching both as theories and foisting this on innocent, trusting children.
How can this be taught in the age of DNA?
How does DNA appear randomly?

Big Nasty said...

Nobody cares about random DNA appearance. Nobody cares about any of that crap. What we care about is cigarette butts tossed out the window, stupid Tiger Woods S*%t and medicinal marijuana. I didn't even know you could play Monopoly in public schools in 1953. Maybe you should go home and read some Bazooka Joe comics.

I find it silly...well, actually, stupid how the right wing (Republicans) cry "Socialism!!!" with anything and everything President Obama does or says.

I notice Republicans drive their cars on our public (socialist) highways. They send their children to public (socialist) elementary and secondary schools and to state colleges and universities. In an earlier post, if they send their kids to private schools, they sure want government tax credits to do so. That sounds socialist to me. But most of all, the Republicans like to wage war with our public (socialist) military. Let's see how tough our military would be if it was nothing but a bunch of state and local militias. We wouldn't be going to war with anyone then.

When it comes to the health care debate, I find it ridiculous that the Republicans have determined that a public option, or Medicare for all, is socialist (and therefore evil) when they are so willing to use all of our other public (socialist) institutions.

You must be one of those non employed persons that wants the taxpayers to pay your way. Why work when you get paid not to. Capitalism is the American way. Earn your own way. Funny how we get Obama with a Democratic majority house and senate, and the entire country (highways, schools, and military) all belong to the socialists? Get a clue, you financial drain. I would venture you are one of those that believes, like Obama, that we can spend our way out of debt. Free healthcare is great for the uninsured. Again something for nothing. You think goverment run health care is so smart. Look at our VA..better yet ask a VETERAN!

It seems like you can't open a newspaper today without having to see stories and pictures of Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie splashed all over the place. Do these editors ever stop to wonder if anyone is even interested in these overpaid, underworked, self-important idiots who seem to be famous only for being famous?

The space could be put to much better use with more stories about the British Royal family.

Anonymous said...

I heard recently that, on average, President Obama receives two turds in the mail each week. What I want to know is, who's sending the other one?

Anonymous said...

"You think goverment run health care is so smart. Look at our VA."

The VA is not Medicare. The VA is a socialized health care system for veterans. The government owns the buildings, employs the doctors, nurses, etc. Medicare is an insurance company. Taxpayers pay the premiums and Medicare pays the health care bills. Hospitals, doctors, the drug companies, etc. are private enterprise. There is a big difference between the VA system and Medicare.

"You must be one of those non employed persons that wants the taxpayers to pay your way. Why work when you get paid not to."

I do have a job, but I can tell you that non-employed persons get health care with or without insurance by showing up at the emergency room. The hospitals and doctors then have to write-off the value of their care and we "employed" folks end up paying higher premiums for this free care.

Look at your insurance policy. I'd be surprised if you had any idea what it costs your employer per month. Quit your job and become self-employed then see how easy or how expensive it is to get insurance coverage. Insurance companies exist to collect premiums and not to pay claims. That's how they make money. That's why they have pre-existing conditions clauses and life-time limits and, if they are in the mood, they can simply drop people (their policy) or not pay claims.

I never suggested that Medicare-for-All would be free. We have an excellent and simple system for paying "premiums" for Medicare right now. It comes out of payroll taxes. Currently, the rate is 1.45% for the employee and the employer matches that. In a Medicare-for-All, you'd just increase the rates and perhaps add an income tax for people that make money outside of payroll system.

You talk big, anon, but I bet when you turn 65, you'll do what everyone else does and join the Medicare program. There are two reasons, one, you probably couldn't find private (capitalism) insurance and, two, it would be way too expensive for you. I'd guess a private policy for a 70 year old male would be $2,000 to $5,000 a month. You'd be too much of a risk for any insurance company to write a policy on you.

Anonymous said...

So since non-employed people get benefits now, you are simply now "giving" them medicare/insurance? Ohh thats super. Why worry about even finding a job?
Medicare is great FOR RETIREMENT AGE people. So I flip burgers for $7 an hour, 4 or 5 hours a week. I am then ENTITLED to the same coverage everyone else has through this great Medicare plan? Super. Typical Democratic BS, let the working people pay for those who dont or wont. Its Christmas 365 days a year. Lets penalize those working and donate to those who are employed.
You have no clue about Republicans supporting the military either. A great many of us are against socialism, not to be prejudiced. More to be patriotic.
Ask Canadians how they enjoy their medical situation. Not saying our insurance situation doesnt need an overhaul. I am sick of the sense of entitlement with people. You are entitled to two things.
#1 Paying taxes
# Death
You want more than that, EARN it.

Anonymous said...

The reason that the Federal government (taxpayers) provide Medicare to retirement-aged individuals is because they are generally too old to work in a productive capacity and have usually paid at least some money into the system.

These reasons simply do not apply to younger folks who can work. Now, I'm sure most of us would agree that system is far from perfect. That is precisely why many of us are hesitant to expand it.

Anonymous said...

The goal should be to have a system which will attract the best talent, provide them with the best training, and give me access to the best treatment and facilities possible. It is obvious that socialized medicine does not provide the means to attain that.

Anonymous said...

The Canadians actually like their health care system. The percentage of discontented are less than 10%. Canadians have a single payer system, which in our lingo would be Medicare-for-All. Canadians spend a whole lot less on health care per capita than we do in the U.S. The cost of their health care is about 60 cents on the dollar compared to the U.S.

This link will take you to a informative blog that discusses the Canadian system compared to ours.

When people talk about dissatisfied Canadians, they are just getting anecdotal stories (usually from Cluster Fox News) instead of more scientific surveys.

I hope you're not serious. You, in effect, are saying that children aren't entitled to an education unless a parent can afford to pay for it. You are saying that a child that is ill can't get health care unless they have a parent pay for it. You'd be willing, at worst, to let thousands of children die, or, at best, leave them ignorant, illiterate.

Here's a quote from Scrooge: `If they would rather die,'' said Scrooge, ``they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

The best talent? The best training? The best treatment? The best facilites? You are talking about a very, very, very expensive system.

Who pays for the training of doctors in this country? At the University of Iowa, the state (taxpayers) pay a big part of the bill. And, Medicare pays a significant amount of funds through the residency training payments. I think you'll find that Aetna and United Healthcare pay zero towards the training of doctors in this county. Our doctors are, and have been, heavily subsidized by the taxpayers of this country.

You may or may not find the above-mentioned "link" anonymous referred to informative. You will, almost certainly, find it heavily biased in favor of government-run health care. Each of the editors on that site are heavily involved in pushing for universal health care, and my guess is that not many opposing viewpoints will be favorably represented there.

Fox News, on the other hand, is unabashedly right-leaning. They will present opposing viewpoints, but one is struck by the heavy amount of conservative programming they offer. I'm curious as to whether or not anonymous is equally offended by the left-leaning media entities such as MSNBC, CNN, or even the New York Times.

Just a little bit about the Canadian health care system. And this information is in no way "anecdotal".

In Canada, it is illegal to seek or convey private medical assistance. Canadian health insurance is under the strict control of the federal government. That is why it is referred to as "socialistic". In the US, it is not illegal to educate your children, or build a road. That is why our highways and schools are not purely socialistic. It is illegal for a Canadian citizen to carry private insurance for any health care services covered by the government. Physicians in Canada are told how much they can charge, and drug prices are set. Not that long ago, Wal-Mart lowered many generic prescriptions in the US to $4, forcing the free market to follow suit. This would not be possible in Canada.

The Fraser Institute, a Canadian think tank, calculated in 2003 that the average Canadian waited more than 4 months for treatment by a specialist once a referral was made. Earlier this year, that would have caused me to lose my entire leg. In some provinces, neurosurgery patients waited more than a year. A simple MRI requires, on average, a three month wait in Canada. In the US, we choose to pay higher prices in order to get more immediate care.

Currently, over 10,000 breast cancer patients who had to wait an average of eight weeks for post-operative radiation treatments have brought a class-action suit against Quebec's hospitals. So you see, taxpayer dollars may end up being used in ways not initially considered.

Two Indian nations are planning to build private hospitals on tribal lands, where the Canadian government's laws do not apply.

India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore (among others) are taking the lead in the field of "medical tourism" - supplying low-cost, high-quality procedures to more than one million patients per year. Is this the direction we are to emulate?

Anonymous said...

"The Fraser Institute, a Canadian think tank..."

You left something out...it should read "The Fraser Institute, an extreme right-wing think tank..."

When the Fraser Institute puts out a report on climate change, you would find one of it's biggest contributors is Exxon Mobil. When corporations want a study done where their viewpoint prevails, they send funding to the Fraser Institute.

Dave & Gloria had a house 1/2 mile south of Totem Acres, where I believe Frank Umbaugh once had a bar. They kept their chickens in the house sometimes and had a dump where they'd recycle what they could sell.
They may have shared a fashion designer with Christmas and Easter.

Scrooge-Was he understood or misunderstood?
Dickens wrote "The Christmas Carol" during a dry period when he really needed some cash, and soon. Perhaps necessity is the mother of invention.

Diamond Dave said...

I did not realize Dave & Gloria were aka Mugs and Jugs. Reminds me of the movie Mother, Jugs, & Speed from '76(never saw it). Jugs was Racquel Welch. Do you kind of see the resemblance?

Did Gloria inspire the song with her name by Laura Brannigan? Just think, the inevitable comparisons to Angelina, Miss America, Raquel Welch, perhaps with songs written about her. Some of us were fortunate enough to know her in the flesh, albeit with 4 or 5 extra layers, the choice of wardrobe so extensive, I'm certain it was painful to select just one outfit.
Gloria, Jefferson's ideal. I was going to use the exclamation point, but the period just seems right somehow.
