How come rap artist Dr. Dre can use the "n" word on his multi-million selling albums and win a MOBO award, yet when I used it at my son's t-ball game I was asked to leave?

Once again, it's one law for the rich and another for the rest of us.

Just opened up an early Christmas Gift. The CD "I Dreamed A Dream" by Susan Boyle. Yes, that is the lady who came in second, but should have won the British competition on the show featuring Simon Cowell. Record producers keep complaining that they aren't selling enough albums, because people are illegally copying music. If they put out better music such as this album it would sell. This album has sold over two million copies in less than one month.

If you want to buy a good album go out and purchase "I Dreamed A Dream" by Susan Boyle. You won't be disappointed.

Hey, I'm sure that "I Dreamed A Dream" is really cool. But I came across an even better one the other day. It's called - get this - "In-A-Godda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly. Way cool.

I just read where the city of Jefferson's Chamber of Commerce web site is being paid for by a grant from the Central Iowa Tourism Department. It seems Jefferson can't even have a web site without expecting outside taxpayers to foot the bill. Maybe this is what Rick Morain is hoping for.

How can John Wayne Gacy be America's worst serial killer? With all of the death he caused before getting caught, wouldn't he maybe be our best serial killer?

You need to find some crazy guy who only got away with one murder and that might be your worst serial killer.

Marty Bryant said...

Rick - I think you may have to look into creating a separate blog to deal with Diamond Dave and his rantings. You may also want to look into a defining blog for the health care thing. Just thinking. Everyone who posts on these issues has a valid point but takes away from others that may want to contribute to this site but will not because everyone is arguing religion or healthcare.

Why slaughter and incinerate livestock with foot-and-mouth disease when they can be redeployed to clear the world's mine fields?

For years I have been wondering, "who is this Brad Pitt guy and who the f@#k is this Angie chick?" Everybody talks about them. Everybody wants to know what they are doing. My question is who are these people? Should I be concerned about them? Do they need my help? Do they need help, period? Should I buy them a mood ring to so they can get back on track? Should I just blow them off and continue to make millions of dollars on my own and call them the losers that they are? I am upset about this entire state of affairs, and need to know just what it would take to get these worries to go away.

Sorry, I had that backwards, don't confuse foot and mouth disease with a good case of athlete's hoof.

What a joke this so-called "evaporated milk" is. I opened a can of it the other day and it was still completely full.

Braxton Hicks said...

I loved the joke about 'evaporated' milk in the previous entry. I love jokes where you can be innocently reading along, then I start uncontrollable laughter. Doesn't happen often enough.

Thanks,

I went bobsleighing this Christmas. I killed Bob Saget, Bob Seeger, and Bob Barker. Do any other readers have jokes that work better when said out loud as opposed to written down?

Anonymous said...

I don't know about that, but I heard yesterday that the Super Bowl was just around the corner. Imagine my disappointment when I walked to the end of my street, only to find a dog vacating under a Ford Escort.

In a bit of a nostalgic mood. One of my favorite memories from the old pink school was that being a curious sort, I always ended up sitting by the window. Better than that was being next to the radiator in the winter. Ahh the joys of melting crayons on that screaming hot pile of painted steel. Lest not forget laying the metal band of an old wooden pencil on that same radiator and then touching it to the neck of the kid in front of you. I am certain I did not invent this torture, just passed on what was once done to me. How I miss that landmark.

iona trailer said...

I had forgotten all about those old radiators. Wow! I drove by the middle school the other day and happened to notice an air conditioner in every window. I certainly don't remember that! One unit was larger than the rest, so out of curiosity I parked the car and got out to investigate. Guess what? That over-sized air conditioning unit was in the teachers' lounge.

Who says doing your Christmas shopping early avoids the crush? Last year, I did mine a full 12 months in advance, and the shops were just as busy as ever.

I am still waiting for the follow up investigation on "Ben Franklin's" after Royal Jewelers was exposed as not the purveyor to Her Majesty The Queen.

Diamond Dave said...

Hope all of you and your families have a safe, wondrous, joyous Christmas and holiday season.

stonehead said...

I know what I think about Christmas. Santa Claus wears a red suit. He must be a communist. And a beard and long hair. Must be a pacifist. What's in that pipe that he's smoking?

Diamond Dave said...

If we'd get Orville Bass' confirming this to get to two sources, there just may be a story here.

Tars Tarkus said...

"I am still waiting for the follow up investigation on "Ben Franklin's" after Royal Jewelers was exposed as not the purveyor to Her Majesty The Queen.

Ohhh, we're still on that story. We don't want to let out any too many of the details before the story is published...let's just say that a certain Founding Father from the 1700's does NOT own or even manage that store!

By the way, Santa is not a communist! That is a documented fact. I'm not so sure about Braxton Hicks...or should we call you Comrade Hicks?!?

Hey, Santa has the right idea - visit people once a year.

I wonder how long it will take for these Democrats in office to come to terms with the fact of the ongoing terrorist threat to our country. Just open a dialogue and be nice and all that same old sorry s##t. Look what happens. It's a wonder we didn't lose that plane full of people. And look who stepped up. Some guy who was pissed off that this dip wanted to send them all to Allah. That guy has probably cracked more balls than Hank Aaron. And he probably just wandered off in the crowd and caught a taxi to have a steak and throw back a bottle or two of scotch before being beat into the dirt by his kids playing Wii the next morning at Christmas. Thanks to him, everyone else on that plane had the opportunity to do the same. USA has to look at this terrorist thing down the long count, because that's what they're doing.

Marty Bryant said...

Get this - DeKalb county just outside of Atlanta wants to charge $250.00 if "Jaws of Life" are required to extricate you and save your life. Wouldn't you think that this should be included in your county taxes? "County officials say the new charge will add $750,000 to county coffers." This would mean that they have to use the "Jaws of Life" 8 times a day, which they don't. I don't live in DeKalb, but wonder what you guys think of this.

Diamond Dave said...

Big Nasty. Right again.

The "long count" thing is important. We are too short-term oriented.

Peripherally, we need to stop our addiction to oil. Brazil (who no longer imports oil) was more dependent on oil than us 30 yrs. ago. They made cars able to access ethanol for use when it's cheaper than oil. If we could access natural gas in addition, we could 1) help ourselves, 2) reduce the oil price marginally long term and 3) decrease funding of state-sponsored terrorist nations who fund hatred to their children.

Anonymous said...

We need more posters like Big Nasty, who obviously takes the time to research his input as opposed to the usual unintelligent drivel offered up by blog-addicted morons like Diamond Dave.

Diamond Dave said...

I jest kint hep miself. I dint thing any1 notissed.

Anonymous said...

Once again, I am forced to read these inane and juvenile ramblings. Diamond Dave probably spends his time posting on this web site because it gives him an opportunity to assume a character much more intelligent than he really is. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he is unemployed, 45 years old, and lives in his parent's basement.

Anonymous said...

Braxton Hicks' silence speaks volumes. Exactly why hasn't he come forward to deny these allegations? Keeping a communist sympathizer on your staff is a violation of some HUD or SPCA regulations, I'm pretty sure. You guys need to do a better job of screening your so-called "staff".

DD - Don't tell me you have a bumper pool table in your rec room...man...I am sooo jealous!!! I just have an old electric football game. Unfortunately, I only have eight blue and seven red players and most of the players bottom legs are broken off or bent really badly. I end up just switching it on and watching the players fall over a vibrate on the field. The QB's throwing arm spring is gone also, so no passing. For the record...the Chiefs beat the Raiders in my last game 6-0. It took almost 3 days to finish.

Everyone should take a moment or two and check out our new feature, "Letters to the Editors". You can access it by clicking on the feature photo near the top of the page on Jefferson Iowa News' web site, or by finding the appropriate link along the left-hand side.

I, for one, am appalled at the insensitivity Mr. Tarkus showed when he casually compared a man of my stature to somebody on the level of Diamond Dave.

I would hope that in the future Mr. Dave would be compared to rodents, small, grubbing insects, or paramecium.

Diamond Dave said...

Why can't I be compared to something of more stature, like huge, grubbing insects?
I like plural, though.

The ISU Cyclones completely dominated Minnesota in the Insight Bowl. It wasn't even close. Did anyone go to the game?

Buford T Justice said...

Rick- after a handfull of whiskeys while watching the game form home, I am having flashback of being at the game. But I agree..the score didn't tell the story. ISU won, but really laid the wood to them.

Rick Bland said...

I can't believe that Rich didn't go to the game - he is getting fairly old, though, and may have been advised by his doctor not to make the trip.

We all have to get old some time.

Anonymous said...

I see where they have ascribed a new name called "flexitarian" to individuals who are generally vegetarian but occasionally splurge and eat meat. What is the point of that?

Rich said...

Rick: I can report that I did attend the game. We returned last Friday to DM and the temperature difference was about 70 degrees cooler. OK, maybe 70 degrees colder.

I can also report that my beer-drinking capacity has been greatly reduced by lack of practice, not a lack of trying.

When I saw the guy in full riot gear at the New Year's Eve party, I knew it was time for the cab back to the hotel. Doobie Brothers played after we left.

They also shut beer sales off at halftime, so I do remember a good portion of the actual game.

A couple less Arnaud interceptions and a better 4th and one call would have made the final margin a lttle better.

Rick Bland said...

I understand that Jefferson Iowa News was represented at the Insight Bowl by our very own Braxton Hicks, who hopefully will be filing a report shortly.

Minnesota once again shows that they are better at fishing than football.

Rich said...

Speaking of the Cyclones, there's a story on cyclones.com that talks about an ISU basketball team that Larry Fie played on. Fie is quoted several times.

When are we going to get to see more local celebrity look-alikes? My grandmother looks a lot like Ernest Borgnine.

Diamond Dave said...

Though I am a Republican, the efforts to dismiss Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are extremely lame. Who disagrees that President Obama is "light-skinned" and doesn't sound like an "urban black."

Democrats wrongfully made a major issue of statements Sen. Trent Lott made praising Sen. Strom Thurmond for his 100th birthday 5-10 years ago. But for Pete's sake, save the outcry for something of substance.

Anonymous said...

What do you think about a first baseman getting into the Hall of Fame by relying heavily on his defensive abilities?

How about Keith Hernandez, specifically? Do you think he was a great fielder?

Tars Tarkus said...

There is little doubt that President Obama's skin color and speech benefited him with White voters. I also think his small frame helped him a lot. Face it, White America was not going to vote for someone who looks like Michael Vick. People may not like the sound of it, but racism is alive and well in the US. Plus, when it comes to voting for president...many vote based totally upon looks. Especially women voters.

Similar, in a way, people did not like the idea of a President with the last name of Huckabee. It did not matter what he did or said...he was sunk.

Tars Tarkus said...

"How about Keith Hernandez, specifically? Do you think he was a great fielder?

Obviously, if he was a great (or even adequate fielder) he would not have played first base. Oh...maybe he could handle the odd bunt or two. But I don't recall anyone ever saying "Wow, did you see that player field that bunt...Ozzie Smith has nothing on him."

Anonymous said...

Been so cold out lately I saw a democrat the other day walking down the street with his hands in his own pockets!

Tars Tarkus said...

Fox News has hired Sarah Palin. If I had even had a glimmer of respect left for that network before, it is gone now.

Rick Bland said...

Adding Sarah Palin is nothing more than an attempt to pump up ratings. No serious news department would possibly think that she could add anything insightful or original to the discussion.

Anonymous said...

Why are we talking about Keith Hernandez?

Diamond Dave said...

We're talking about Hernandez bcz of a conversation last week.

Keith's run production per at bat {(Runs + rbi's)-home runs}}/at bats is superior to Brock, Clemente and Brooks Robinson.
It is comparable to Kell, Cepeda, Killebrew, McCovey, Rice, Dawson and Reggie Jackson. These were selected bcz they played less important defensive positions (1B, 3B, RF, LF) and all but Kell are middle of the road, not fringe Hall of Fame candidates.
Clemente and B. Robby are the only glove men better than KH on this list

Bcz HOF inductions are becoming tougher for players, Keith was not a likely HOF candidate. My main beef is that he, like Lou Whitaker, was quickly dismissed bcz he did not garner the 5% of votes needed and was dumped to possibly be looked at in 20 years by the Veteran's Committee. He was MVP in 1979, led the league 2x in runs, & On Base %, and 1x in batting average, doubles and walks. He is the best fielding 1B of alltime.
He needs both hitting & fielding to be properly considered to have a shot at the HOF.

I did not factor in KH's Seinfeld performances in any HOF considerations.
