No Midway

It has come to our attention that there was no midway this year at the Greene County Fair. That's right - no rides, games, or other similar entertainment. Just a lot of extra parking. What gives?

On the plus side, the number of carnies at the fair was greatly reduced.

What, Farlin residents were not represented as usual at the county fair???? I always thought the fair booth of "Are you a Carny or are you from Farlin?" was my favorate fair game.

A midway at Greene County? Not a quality since we moved her in 2002. Only 4H/FFA events. They did have a Jason Brown concert and fireworks. Surrounding counties have good County Fair events. With the redistricting of the Green County Iowa State Extension 4H Director will that eliminate the Greene County Fair all together in the future to merge with the other counties creating a district fair instead?

I was told by a somewhat unreliable source that the lack of a midway at this year's fair was the result of scheduling oversights and/or errors by the fair board.

If that is true, the midway should miraculously reappear next year.

I have found that the number of carnies has actually increased this year. Folks from Farlin are attempting to escape Jefferson in massive numbers.

Apparently they have been told that since the scale was removed from the Farlin/Jefferson game, there is no way to distinguish between a loaded boxcar and the county fair queen.
