I'll start this out with an apology for the lack of activity on the Bistro over the last few months. This is directly my fault. I unfortunately was felled by a somewhat serious illness that left me hospitalized for the entire month of May.
I just now am beginning to get back to my writing duties, and it will be 2-3 weeks before our main web page starts to regularly update again.
Tell me this. Why are there so many blacks in Fort Dodge? How did they get there? This is the middle of the corn belt. Why don't they leave so we can be rid of them?
Wow. Now that's an ugly comment. I assume you are just looking to shock and disturb everyone here.
But here's my answer anyway: We are all Americans. No one (black or white, rich or poor, young or old) has any more or less right than any other to live anywhere in this country they want to. Deal with it.
Otherwise we would round up all the redneck losers and inflict a painful death. Lucky for you we don't.
I am glad somebody "stepped up to the plate" and put that Rich back in his place! "Glad you are feeling better"...Well, you can just keep those kind of ugly comments to yourself, mister!!!
There was a post quite a while back, for the most famous Jeffersonian. I'd nominate Judge Robert Hanson, JCHS Class of '74, for most influential Jeffersonian. His controversial ruling allowing gay marriage seems to continue the ball rolling across the nation. The Bee & Herald heralded his judicial wisdom, integrity and continuing family tradition of courageous rulings. I would compare it to President Truman saying, "Well boys, let's check the reviews after Nagasaki." Keep your pith helmet on, Bob.
That's probably as good as a nomination as any other...until we get a decent serial killer. Then Hanson gets dropped. It's nice to be a footnote in the "gay rights" history...but a good lamp shade made out of human skin...that is what can set you apart from the crowd.
Ah, infamy. Bill Limburg's counsel was it was a "poor career choice." As the years passed, I found this quite insightful. Although, Dr. George Tiller showed, in the greater Wichita area anyway, that, if one had his doctorate, that, combined with a nifty business plan, a comfortable living could be had. But, ushering the nearly born into eternity three score and ten years prematurely, seems a little rash. Anonymous, I believe that boy band, Hanson, was NOT from Jefferson. And, to the best of my knowledge, they were never even suspects in any cold case murders. I implore you, be more respectful of the many sacrifices boy bands have made to shape and mold our very way of life. Remember, the pen is heavier than the sword? Hmmm, What's a near synonym for heavier?
I don't remember having even one conversation with Bill Limburg throughout my entire high school career which included or even casually mentioned anything about my future after graduation.
Wild Bill was way too interested in the opposite gender of students for me. Didn't really spend 2 seconds assisting me with any career path or school. Guess i was lacking internal plumbing parts necessary to warrant his attention.
On an unrelated note, it appears the Last Draw has served its token last draw. Shut down because the basement walls are giving way and the whole structure is at risk of being in the basement. July 31st was the last night and any drink in the house was a buck until midnight, then it was free open bar. Jefferson's finest citizens were certainly hung over August 1st.
I drove past Carl's Bad Tavern last week and it has indeed been closed down and fenced off. Scroll down to the bottom of the main Bistro page and have a toast while absorbing the beauty of that fine old structure.
The Pirates? Wasn't their last winning season when Barry Bonds' head was the size of a prize-winning state fair watermelon? Is it possible to write only questions? Was Jefferson Iowa News lost?
Senator Edward Kennedy was born 200 years to the day after George Washington. Two great Americans reknowned for their honesty and moral terpitude (whatever that is). I still don't buy George's chopping down the cherry tree, though.
Gilbert was always pretty wiry. Now if we had lost to Larry or Whitey that would be pretty inexcusable. Miss Landers still might have some eligibility left, so that could be a much closer game than I would have originally guessed.
Just read Orville K. on Ted K. They both come from the extreme side of things. I'm not hankering to being chauffered by either after a late night get-together. I'm guessing they both get along clandestinely with their "sworn enemies": TK with Barry Goldwater, Orrin Hatch and Jerry Falwell, and I'm guessing OK with Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer and his favorite, Hillary Clinton.
Judge Robert (hi Bob) Hanson was a classmate of mine. His Dad, The honorable Judge William Hanson did some memorable things as well. Bob, if you ever read this, we still have a promise to visit the Burmuda Triangle together! lol It's kid of funny to see this blog about his decision on gay marriage when I spent a couple of years sticking my hands under his butt, I was the quarterback and Bob was the center, and wondering if that had an influence on his decision. lmao I really doubt it though. Bob has a 21st century mind and a beautiful wife.

As I recall, the team from Ward was a little hard on the Beaver last season.
The Jefferson Rams thrashed Carroll Kuemper Friday night by the score of 20-6.
The game was close until the fourth quarter when we finally put it out of reach.
Next up is Carroll this Friday. This appears to be a challenge for us, as Carroll is currently ranked third in the state by the Des Moines Register.
