Railroad Overpass

Can anybody out there update us on the progress of Jefferson's railroad overpass project? What were the reactions to it at the recent informational meeting held in town? Why won't the Bee & Herald report on this?

I think the Jefferson Herald had something on this a few weeks ago. They discussed the roads that would be closed and such. Kind of a technical article. Things like the date construction will start and the roads affected by construction. I don't think they have done any articles to get people's opinion or what they expect the finished project to look like. As usual, the lady that does the weekly column for the Rippey News is their best reporter...and she does not report on things not of Rippey.

For a detailed story one could possibly check out the bee&herald.com, oh wait about 40 more years they may very well have a web page by then.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this project may never get off the ground.

The few details I remember were:
1. McKinley doesn't have access to Hwy 4, but goes under the new over pass.
2. Bomgaars has drives off of McKinley and the street by DQ.
3. Access to places like the old Pizza Hut, Subway, etc is by a "backage" road.
4. A street connects this new backage road to Wilson.

Rich -

Did you actually attend this meeting, or some one you know? Was this information published or posted somewhere? Has this project been slated to begin?

I actually read in the local paper.

Not sure when it's beginning. The article spoke about planned detours, etc. so it's pretty far along.

The first sign of it moving forward will the acquisition of the property for the additional streets/right-of-way width.

Thank God they are buying right of way property. Otherwise no one could get down to the Jefferson Hotel or Leftie's and they might have to close.

Do you remember when Lefty's was located in the building on the northwest corner of the square? A really prominent spot!

Heather - I remember spending entire days at Lefty's and then trying to explain my absence to Mr. Schmidt.

I recall at least once when he didn't like my explanation and threw me against the wall and punched me in the face.
