News Flash- Bell Tower Planning Committee has caved in to popular demand and moved Beer Tent and related activities closer to new Highway 30! From Elks Lodge to North side of downtown square! Reportedly meeting attendees were sweating bullets on outcome of new radical thinking. Early info leans toward no serious injuries, but all reports are not in. Updates will be forthcoming as they develop.

The city of Jefferson is planning on constructing a railroad overpass on North Elm Street, beginning in 2011. It would be completed in 2012.

The cost of this project is estimated at 10.5 million dollars, most which would be funded through the ongoing stimulus package.

I think I suggested this project as part of a previous thread on the stimulus package (assuming people think it's a good use of cash, of course.).

Should probably have the highway go under the tracks, based on the relative height of the tracks and how the ground falls off to the north.

I have heard from legitimate sources that the Mahaney Tower is now leaning slightly towards Ace Pizza.

"Ace's Pizza"! Has Dino been resurrected?

Yeah Rich great idea! Lets have an underpass that is lower than the lot East of Joes Auto body. Super plan then we could load all cars on a ferry to get across the pond that would be present there. Hck you otta run for mayor.

For the record, it seems that the Jefferson Bee and Herald was once again shut out at the annual Iowa Newspaper Association awards banquet. This group gives out literally hundreds of awards annually.

Last year the Carroll paper received 63 awards.

I like the new slogan "Doing Less With More!" I think it should be the centerpiece of the '09 Bell Tower Fest. It couldn't have a more fitting home, since the planning committee axed all the great new ideas in favor of the same old crap. I would like to know how much of an increase the Jefferson Police and the Greene County Sherrif's Dept. is asking for this year in spite of the fact that they can't control a BBQ contest, a softball tourney, and some fireworks all in one weekend. Think about it, if I were a police officer, I'd be shaking in my sneakers.

Think how bad it would be if the A&W were still open!
