OK, So where did everyone from Jefferson do their Christmas shopping? Locally, nearby communities, Des Moines? Maybe the internet? Perhaps a combination of the above? Tell us where you're shopping.

I did all of our Christmas shopping right here in Jefferson this year. I bought my husband a new fishing pole and a Shakespeare reel at Lyon's Sporting Goods. I got my son a nice little camera at Woodruff's and we bought everything for our holiday dinner at Bordenaro's. The next day we went out to the Redwood with our entire family and had John Brown's prime rib, which was excellent. But what do I know, I've been dead for 27 years. Maybe more, I don't remember for sure. Everything just seems to run together anymore.
This Christmas I tried to buy locally to help support the smaller guys. I then found that I couldn't really buy anything in secret cause every store owner was my first cousin or soon to be my new in-law.
To end the fustration I traveled out to Sparky's and bought some pork loins from some trucker passing through.
I've never been in that store, Laura - but it sounds like the kind of place where you might find really interesting, unique gifts. I remember one year buying all my gifts at antique stores - it was quite a bit more fun than shopping at the malls.
Junck has "new" and "antiques" and is so much fun. Check out their site at http://www.junck.biz. I just bought a windchime with a wonderful sound, made form the drawer rails to some old cabinets from the courthouse.....

I sympathize with this last anon. poster. You have to know it's getting bad when your family tree comes to a point.
Surely somebody did some shopping in the Jefferson area. Maybe some real estate. Nobody found anything locally? Amazing.
I shopped some at Junck - they have very funky stuff there. "Re-purposed" stuff turned into usable art. I did a little bit at Printer's Box -
It is definitely hard to support the merchants when they don't have most of what I am looking for. But I spent as much as I could in town -

That is a really cool old photo of the north side of the square in Jefferson on their web page. My guess is that it is from the 50's.
Hope they don't mind that I threw it in our archives.
