Since I was the first visitor to comment in more than 18 hours, my pick was "Jefferson Iowa News". That's why I wanted my winnings in a hurry.
Unfortunately, not one of the allowed choices (see list of available selections on main web page). Really clever, though.
Laughing at people losing their business (and their employees losing their jobs). You guys are pretty funny. Please, everyone let us know if you (or hopefully the company that one of your kids works for) goes out of business so we know to laugh at you about it. What a real winner idea.
Another shot across the bow from a reader who chooses to remain anonymous. I'm not sure where you pick up on the notion that we are "laughing" at these folks. Humor was not referenced in the post or in the accompanying article.
This is simply a contest. Much like the ones at the office where we try to guess where the Dow Jones will bottom out. That is not funny either - just a contest. AOL today ran a story on its main web page in which they attempted to guess which newspaper would go under next. Similar to the annual list of "Ten Worst Movies of 2009" or whatever. You may feel that topics such as these are in bad taste; you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
I have a feeling that this is one of those "don't print the bad news" moments that I find prevelant in Jefferson. The local paper won't even print business closings. NO BAD NEWS!!
