What do you do about the BP oil spill? Maybe you don't even think it's your problem. Whose problem is it? Who should be taking charge of this?

This is old news. The spill has been cleaned up (as much as possible) for years. Thank god the Alaskan shoreline has been restored and pray that nothing like that ever happens again.
The media seems to be focusing on President Obama's handling of the oil spill. Just what exactly would you like him to do? It would be nice if he had the answer, but of course the answer is that we just have to clean it up and wait while a new hole is dug. Stop complaining already.
Fox News would have you believe that the problems caused by the oil spill have been magnified many times due to President Obama's incompetence. They say that he has "mishandled" or "mismanaged" the crisis.
You need to understand that there is nothing Obama can do. It is in the best interests of the oil companies to end the problem quickly. Everything that can be done is being done. Blaming Obama is no more intelligent than blaming then-President Bush for Hurricane Katrina.
Funny you would mention Katrina. President Bush was crucified in the mainstream media for his every movement during that crisis. Now, we are told not to criticize Obama.
That looney congresswoman from Minnesota is calling for BP to foot the bill for the oil spill cleanup, but insists that BP stockholders not be affected. In one sentence she displayed her ignorance of oil spill technology and the capitalist economy - very impressive.
A 55-gallon barrell of oil goes for about $60 0r $70 dollars. You can get 220 quarts of oil out of that, each retailing for about $4.00. So, with the ability to turn $55 into $900 or so, BP and the oil companies want to stop this oil leak just as badly if not worse than anyone else. Everything that can be done is being done.
That last post makes no sense. Even if I headed south to help with the clean-up (anon. has no way of knowing whether or not that'll happen), There is a zero percent chance of his following.
You can translate his post into what he really means ... "I'm too damn lazy to clean it up - I'd rather let the government do it."

Somethings you cannot control, so best to think about something else. It would be nice to have an instant fix, but that is impossible. Amazing they have technology to drill 5,280 feet deep in the ocean. Would the drilling be in international water? How far does the U.S. control. I thought it was 3 miles. Sounds like it is 30-50 miles off shore.
I agree with Braxton, as usual. it really doesn't matter where they drilled, or whose territory it is in. The same international conglomerates will all be called in to work together on this problem.

Hard to believe that we allow people to pump oil in this manner without having a plan in place in case of emergency.

How about Obama proposing legislation banning drilling in ultra-deep waters?

The point is not whether to criticize Obama or not. The point is that it simply does no good.
Maybe Obama should follow the lead of past presidents and invade a smaller country in order to bring up his sagging poll numbers.

The United States, as well as most first-world countries, claims a 200-mile limit into the ocean as territorial.
