What's a reasonable rate to pay some one to mow your lawn?
I have a 2 acre lawn here in ATL. My Mexicans mow it once a week with one of those golf course mowers that suck up the clippings. They also trim the shrubs and edge. $100.00 a month. No kidding. I think that's reasonable.
I have an average sized lawn here in Des Moines, and pay myn guy $30 per shot. I maybe overpay him a little, but he also does odds and ends around the yard that he sees needs attention (branches, shrubs, etc) and he sprays for weeds and cleans the garage.
I'd say $25 or so would be reasonable to mow a yard unless there were unusual factors. That'd fit right in with Marty's $100 per month, figuring they mow weekly.
Jefferson should use the Bell Tower Festival to emphasize the things that Greene County offers the world. Things like sweet corn, pork, steaks, and soy products.
Sweet corn feeds, and bbq pork roasts are natural events that should be held. Instead, it seems like they spend their time focused on things they are not. Wine tasting? Get real.
There will be no sweet corn feeds. There will be no bbq pork roasts. There will be no fireworks. There will be no stock car races. There will be wine tastings. There will be lots of police to monitor the wine tastings.
The Bagley people will drive around in new combines and inquire about air conditioning for their homes.
People from Carroll will drive by, singing Celtic sea chanteys with their children as they travel to Spirit Lake, but arrive in Chicago, because they missed that turn in Carroll.
Texas recently approved the rewriting of history in classroom textbooks that is in agreement with the views of the church. Why can't fundamentalists observe the church/state separation that has been in place and ruled on by the US Supreme Court?
On the BP oil thing - At this point in time, it is BP's responsibility but Obama's fault that this gusher has not been contained. You cannot tell me that the massive U.S. military machine does not have the technology or capability to plug this well. It is a prime example of Obama's inexperience, wishy washy politics, and pretty much his habit of running around being the first black president born in Kenya. If it were Ronald Reagan, that "spill" would have been stopped weeks ago, and BP would be on the hot seat BAD.
That's because the trains carry coal, chemicals, or lumber. No one wants to fight for that. We should look forward to 18 wheeler fights over the illegal crap they carry every day.
While we were in Jefferson today taking photos, some local lunatic called the police to report what he considered our "suspicious" behavior. The police found us and questioned us briefly before realizing the mistake.
Only in a community with virtually no crime and no common sense would people behave so irrationally.
Also. I hear that Rick Morain's wife is pissed off at us for our joke about all of Rick's gambling debts. HAHA
Hey, Buford, good detective work! Did you used to be a police officer? You should have pulled us over and introduced yourself - we're getting used to being pulled over!
Listen anony-mouse. I didn't call the cops on anyone. I wasn't in fear of anything.Prolly some blue-hair peeking out her windows. I just noticed them and I know who one of them is. I saw him and thought JIN reporters out getting it done. Needless to say anyone taking photos in this town is a rarity, except the posed photo ops when someone is handing a token check to someone else for the Bee. I applaud the staff for being active. Heck their parity web page has more news in it than the local paper. Rick the school got real touchy a few years ago, and wants people to "register" in the office before cruising the halls.
For crying out loud, Saying Buford T. called the cops must be a joke. I agree that it was some old fart waiting for that crime wave that never materializes.
Whoever called doesn't even realize how badly he is wasting the officer's time.
I see where that 16-year-old girl trying to be the youngest to sail around the world is now lost at sea. Her parents are trying to mobilize the US government, US Navy, and various international organizations in an effort to rescue her.
So, first you have parents acting as irresponsibly as their children, then expecting taxpayers to foot the bill when everything goes wrong. What a bunch of morons.

What you haven't caught on to is the fact that the Bell Tower Festival has gradually evolved into a group of events favored by the over-45 group.
This is also what the town in general has become, so no surprise there.
Did the Celts have sea chanteys?
Speaking of Celts, what a great series they had dismantling LeBron James and the Cavaliers. Next up. Orlando.
I just really want to know if John Rowland will be working the beer tent this year!! That is the only reason I go to the BTF period!
I don't know if John Rowland will be working the beer tent. I'm pretty sure he won't be working the wine tasting event.
If you cropped Terry Branstad's moustache to Charlie Chaplin's width, isn't he a dead ringer for Hitler?
I don't see it, Dave.
I think he'd be a dead ringer for Charlie Chaplin.
Arlen Specter changes parties and loses anyway. Is that significant?
Specter was running in a democratic primary - all democrats. This can be interpreted as another incidence of anti-incumbency.
Is Arlen Specter significant? No. Is Phil Spector significant? No. Both mean nothing at this point. Think. I am weary of this spectre thing.
Boston Celtics destroy Orlando in game three. I smell a sweep ...
Jefferson Iowa News' facebook page can now boast 700 fans!
Phil Specter? Is he in prison yet?
Texas recently approved the rewriting of history in classroom textbooks that is in agreement with the views of the church. Why can't fundamentalists observe the church/state separation that has been in place and ruled on by the US Supreme Court?
The oil spill in the gulf keeps getting bigger, but the price of gas keeps getting smaller. Go figure.
If you shaved John Rowland's head and carved a swastika in his forehead he would look exactly like Charles Manson.
If you put a moustache on John Rowland he would look like John Wilkes Boothe.

Celtics or Lakers?
Why hasn't anyone called Red Adair yet?
Quit trying to stop up the leak. Start working on controlling the flow and retrieving that oil.
Nobody seems to fight on top of trains anymore.

Buford spotted you in a tan mini-van with a Lazer 103.3 sticker in the back window.

Yesterday the Obama administration criticized Fox News for not devoting enough air time to African-Americans and Hispanics.
In response, Fox has agreed to air "America's Most Wanted" twice daily.
Jefferson Iowa News' facebook page now has over 800 fans!
Is Buford the guy who spotted you and called the cops on you?
You should pay your lawn guy the same amount you pay your snow removal guy.
That would be $0.00. I don't think he would work for that.

GO CELTICS!!
Who is John Smith? I hear he will get an award at Bell Tower Fest.
Isn't he that Mormon dude?

Before leaving on her trip around the world, that 16-year-old girl told reporters that "God" was going to take care of her. It looks like he did.
Her older brother set the record a couple years back. Talk about sibling rivalry!
Buford - we're going to be back in town on Tuesday -try to find us!
The God of Lightning strikes down "touchdown Jesus". Too funny.
What is the difference between a Jefferson city councilman and a small, irritating boil on your behind?
The boil may be easier to tolerate.
