Time to start a new thread without the burden of having a topic. What's going on that we missed? Maybe you missed your opportunity to speak out on a past thread. Here's your chance.
It is interesting that this topic started with the word "time". I have been researching this "time" thing and have found that it is a remaining dimension that many people take for granted. Think about it, if it were not for long stretches of unbroken time, everything would have happened at once and we'd all be dead before we knew it.
It's interesting how differently Westerners and 3rd Worlders look at time. A pastor mentioned how we are insulted when others are late & meetings are not promptly initiated. Cambodians, on the other hand, were disturbed by this pastor blindly starting the church service when he could plainly see many of the usual parishioners were not there, and knowing they were always late. How inconsiderate and unthoughtful of him not to consider them and patiently wait till they arrived.
Why is it that all these nut cases suddenly are refusing to fill out their census forms? Exactly what is it that they are afraid of? Or is this another Glen Beck rallying cry?
Both the conservative Daily Caller and the liberal Plum Line report that conservative counties are sending in their census forms at similar to the national rate.
Michelle Malkin on 4-07 (I get it from the columnists in the Drudge Report) recounts letters she's received from census workers being encouraged to waste public money and featherbed to string their jobs along for 2 extra months. The workers are complaining because their managers are telling them to slow down and basically suck from the public teat. People who live to waste our money are not the people I trust asking questions or with other responsibilities and resources.
That is not a new occurrence. Any person who has worked for the city, county, or state will tell you that behavior like that has been going on for generations. I guarantee that has happened in every census ever conducted.
Hey will John Rowland being working in the beer tent again this year? I saw him serving last year during bell tower. Talk about a perfect job for that guy!! Surrounded by all sorts of beer and wine!
Who is this "John Rowland" individual? Many people talk about him. Is he a professional golfer? Some people say he is a teacher. Others say he runs the beer tent at Bell Tower. What up?
I am sitting here at Carl's, with Jane handing out her pickled hot veggies. It is summer, and the back door is open. We go back past the pool table and that one Teicher dude and stare out at the vast stretches of the Lincoln Highway. The Eagles play in the background. We are kings, here at Carl's. We own you. That is what it is all about. That and the fact we are all hosing that one chick that is married to that banker dude.
There have been several takes on the ongoing census, some good, some bad. Here in ATL, people representing themselves as census takers knock on your door, pull a pistol, and commence a full blown home takeover, including theft, murder, and rape. Also, individuals representing themselves as meter readers and county water officials use the same scam to get you to open the door. Whenever I open my door, I have a 1911 A1 .45 in hand, and will use it to smear your ass down the sidewalk. That being said, I always return my census forms in the public mail as asked.
I believe old people are being double-counted. People in long-term care are still being counted by their spouses at home, in addition to being reported by the nursing home. Old folks still consider their debilitated husband/wife part of the family, and will continue to count them until they die. This is the reason these small towns are all over-counted. Duh.
In a report released last week by the Congressional Budget Office, it was estimated that rather than add to the deficit, the newly-passed health care reform package will actually reduce the deficit by $138 billion over the next ten years.
Sarah Palin was recently asked if she thought the phrase "under God" should be included in the pledge of allegience. She replied that if it were "good enough for the founding fathers" then it was good enough for her.
Only problem is that the pledge of allegience was written about 100 years ago. See, Sarah Palin is a moron. She just goes around babbling key phrases and "buzz words" like "founding fathers" ad nauseum. She can't even name any founding fathers. It's true. She was asked to last year and was stumped. She also stated that they were on Mount Rushmore. Lincoln and Roosevelt?
As long as people wildly cheer her on every time she says the words "founding fathers" and "elite liberal media" she will use them over and over without even understanding them. Morons leading morons.
When will Glenn Beck's viewers wake up and realize that Beck is using them to get rich? He's a grifter, and the sooner people see this reality, the better off America will be. But don't hold your breath. He plays to an audience that is easily led.
If the Congressional Budget Office is correct, and the health care bill will indeed lower the deficit, then the last best argument against passing it is no longer relevant.
Now we just have to convince people that putting the govt in charge of your best interests is in no way worse than putting some guy at a desk at Aetna in charge of it.
Whenever I have heard Glenn Beck start his show he calls the audience, "Sick, Twisted, Freaks." Would you continue to listen to someone that calls you ~ a sick, twisted, freak? Not me! I hate that he makes $23,000,000 per year as a talk show host. $50-60,000 would be plenty. Making that much he could retire in one year at age 47. [Source 4-11-2010 Parade Magazine.]
How 'bout I step in it just one more time? Glenn Beck-What is all the uproar about? Instead of doing a bombastic, pompous Rush Limbaugh gig on the radio, he chooses a snarky, smart aleck nya, nya, nya, nya, nya bit. We have enough of those attempts here on the blog.
Radio is like boxing. There are thousands of guys getting their brains knocked out for nothing, and a very few contenders who make lottery money. NO ONE is talking about the march of federalism and where it started. Oh, except for Glenn Beck informing us about the Progressive movement. More later.
Albert Pujols projections-53 hr, 162 rbi's, .355 ba, .700 slugging % and over .500 on base percentage. Post WWII top 20 results in all these statistical categories. A year for the non-steroid ages.
San Antonio wins 2 series as the lower seed and loses is the conference finals, I hope to anyone except the LA Lakers and Kobe. Go San Antone! Orlando somehow beats Cleveland again.
It looks like the rest of us should talk over here, since Rick and Diamond Dave have their own topic. What do you think of the weather? How's your lawn doing? You think the farmers will make a buck this year?
Ben Roethlisberger is BIG news here in ATL, and not in a good way. Recently released documents seem to indicate that his motorcycle accident awhile back may have caused a severe brain fart, leading him to believe he is playing in the NBA or is employed by So-So Deff Records, not the NFL.
I am actually hard core Bears and Cubs all the way, and am amazed that any NFL team would send a limo for Vick and two or three more for his baggage. Maybe he would find more acceptance if he hung a big clock around his neck and attempted to dance and sing.
You need to talk about the incredibly slow traffic between Jefferson and Ogden. As soon as you hit the four-lane highway, everyone speeds up. Unbelieveable.
To Rick - It is most likely that the cones and rods of their eyeballs that are supposed to transfer optical information to the brainstem have been compromised. Current science tells us that this could be home grown meth, home grown dope, or any pizza you would have eaten at Doris Gillespie's place in the 70's.
I have witnessed that as well. You can work up a real good case of road rage following some old farmer going 53 mph on the two-lane highway, and be unable to pass. Then, suddenly, when the road widens to four lanes, they get bold and speed up to 58 or 60. Why the hell they can't drive that same speed on a two-lane road is beyond me.
I ran these thoughts past Orville Bass and he got road rage over the phone just from listening. He'll address that in his next rant.
Thoroughly enjoyed the best houses and photos. The detail of who all lived at various places was simply great. I could not place 500 S. Elm/Dorothy Hamilton's, at all when it was posted without identifiers. Excellent!
I have found over the years that the best deterrent for road rage is to keep an open bottle of scotch in the car handy and take a healthy swig every few miles. Really calms my nerves, anyway.
Shots of scotch will work, but a more effective road rage deterrent is to take four or five vicodan tablets before departing. Either that or just take along a morphine drip. Or let your wife drive (last resort).
The NFL plays the PR game so well. They buried the Rothlisberger suspension 1 day before the NFL draft frenzy on prime-time,which was a ratings bonanza.
They stuck it to Ben. They let the criminal inquiry news do their heavy lifting. I liked that they gave Ben a chance to redeem himself w/2 fewer games punishment for undergoing counsel.
The Rooneys and Pittsburgh will not stomach another one of these incidents. I thought the Raiders considering trading for him would be apropos. Just win, baby.
I always enjoy drafts. Dez Bryant slipping to #24 with the Cowboys delighted, thinking they'd gotten a Randy Moss. QB's Clausen and Colt McCoy slipping dramatically, Denver out on a limb picking Tebow. It's old school reality TV with everyone imagining themselves as right in their assessment until called out as wrong.
The NFL may be the most successful successful socialist organization around. The tougher schedules for the best teams the year before allow for success to be spread around, creating greater fan interest and reawarding loyalty. You are less likely to have 65+ year drouths to the championship game or 100+ years for a championship. The CUBS, Giants and Pirates dominated 1900-1913, though.
The NBA draft is better bcz there are only 5 players out there at a time, thus the draft's impact is greater and more immediate.
I received an email from Marty Bryant today describing an expansion of second amendment rights recently sent to Georgia governor Sonny Perdue's office for approval. This law has been passed by both chambers. If you're still on this thread, Marty, can you give us some details?
Jamie Pollard with the brilliant hire of the mayor; Fred Hoiberg. He'll team up with Jeff Grayer and Nick Nurse. A coaching staff composed entirely of Cyclones!
I don't have it in front of me anymore but it basically says that in Georgia, individuals with permits to carry can have guns in the airports. That's what I like about Georgia.
If you are a law-abiding citizen and like guns, Georgia is the place to be. If you are a criminal who likes to use guns, stay away if you have any brains at all.
In addition, the law passed a few years ago allowing loaded guns in gloveboxes or under your seat was directed entirely at reducing carjackings. After the carjackers experienced a short, painful learning curve, these crimes are nearly a thing of the past. Motorists are legally packing heat. What a disincentive.
Just reading the news here in ATL- It seems that a black female, in an attempt to make her ass larger than it already was, had it injected with household grade silicone caulk. This is what folks in Iowa use to seal their windows. After several black dudes used her new, larger ass as a bar table, she died. Warning - do not inject household caulking materials into your body.
On a recent trip to Jefferson, a member of Jefferson Iowa News' photographic crew was asked to leave the middle school and was told they were not allowed to take any pictures of the school's interior, under any circumstances.
Somebody needs to inform these so-called authorities that it is perfectly legal in the United States to photograph the inside of public buildings, including schools. Furthermore, it is legal to photograph any individuals you want at them. They have absolutely no recourse.
The superintendant has subsequently apologized and offered to take pictures for us. I am not completely sure how to respond, but I'm very tempted to tell him that we will be taking our pictures with or without him; and allow him to accompany us.
Leave it to a tiny town completely off the terror threat radar to start overreaching their authority and trying to bully out-of-towners. If Our staff photographer would have been a local, I doubt anything would have been said.
At any rate, we have to let them know that their position is untenable and not supported by any legal basis. More as it develops.
Iranian cleric Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi has specifically blamed all the recent earthquakes on women not dressing modestly enough. So you see, exposed breasts cause earthquakes.
Listening to Deace & Miller on KXNO this morning. They are saying Nebraska is begging to get into the Big 10.
They would add Nebraska, Missouri and Rutgers(in New Jersey-get some NY state interest) to the mix. If this happens, The Big 10 should seek to add in order NOTRE DAME, Syracuse, Pittsburgh or Kentucky (like NE is to football, KY is to basketball) and get to 16 teams. There is speculation that Northwestern (Big 10)& Vanderbilt(SEC) make what ND does out of its NBC football package. The big 10 network pays about $22 million to each Big 10 school from its football package (this maybe the whole package, though).
The downside is this marginalizes the Big 12 and they may go back to a Southwestern Conference type conference with the 4 TX schools and OK and Oklahoma State. What would ISU, Colorado, KS and Kansas State do?

I wouldn't attach any special meaning to it.

Some excerpts from Forbes Magazines's recent article on Glenn Beck. The following are direct Glenn Beck quotes:
1. "I could give a flying crap about politics. I'm an entertainment company."
2. "You'd have to be an idiot not to notice global warming."
3. "If you take what I say as gospel, the you're an idiot."
4. "Controversy is its own coinage."
When will Glenn Beck's viewers wake up and realize that Beck is using them to get rich? He's a grifter, and the sooner people see this reality, the better off America will be. But don't hold your breath. He plays to an audience that is easily led.

What exactly does snarky mean?
Snarky- snide, annoying, irritating, sarcastic, impertinent, irreverent.
Evidently Beckian.

Sort of makes you long for the days of Michael Vick, huh?
That sounds like the comment of a sick, twisted freak.
I am actually hard core Bears and Cubs all the way, and am amazed that any NFL team would send a limo for Vick and two or three more for his baggage. Maybe he would find more acceptance if he hung a big clock around his neck and attempted to dance and sing.
Make that 8 or 10 limos for his baggage.
Marty - how come every time I drive by one of those houses that are painted a gaudy shade of purple or pink, I discover a black person living there?
You need to talk about the incredibly slow traffic between Jefferson and Ogden. As soon as you hit the four-lane highway, everyone speeds up. Unbelieveable.
To Rick - It is most likely that the cones and rods of their eyeballs that are supposed to transfer optical information to the brainstem have been compromised. Let's talk about why the trees that were planted at the Greene County Country Club in 1965 are still so small.
Mike -
I have witnessed that as well. You can work up a real good case of road rage following some old farmer going 53 mph on the two-lane highway, and be unable to pass. "The Best-Looking Homes In Jefferson" should have included a couple from Scranton. Just for laughs.
It's good to have a strict constructionist on the blog. Welcome Judge Scalia!
Shots of scotch will work, but a more effective road rage deterrent is to take four or five vicodan tablets before departing. Either that or just take along a morphine drip. Or let your wife drive (last resort).
A great way to spendyour next Saturday - canoeing from McMahon Access to Squirrel Hollow - the Raccoon River is high enough right now.

This is very true. Carjackers, home invaders, muggers, and hold-up men get capped frequently by John Q. Public here in ATL.

Nebraska is not begging to get into the big ten. That's a bunch of BS.
