In regard to the photo archives, the old courthouse was way cooler than the brick that's sitting there now.

I think it's cool how Jefferson Iowa News was temporarily "hijacked" to become the Paton Iowa News. Shows a little more goes on in this county than just Jefferson, Jefferson, Jefferson..*evil cackle*

What is the story with the Gallup House? It looks way better than I ever remember it looking.

Rich said...

I think the Gallup Foundation (or similar) paid a significant chunk of the rehab costs.

Here's one. I'm thinking seriously about getting a dog to keep me company while the rest of my family watches House, Lost, Survivor, Prison Break, American Idol, or other things they've Tivo'd so I don't see them for weeks on end. I want a bloodhound like Jed Clampett has. It could lay around at the shop and keep my wife up during full moon. She wants a little rat dog. I am looking for opinions and feedback. An AKC bloodhound will set me back $400.00. Any other dogs that are favorites or good company?

Rich,

Thanks for the link. Enjoyed reading about Robby and seeing a picture of his dad.

My suggestion, Marty, would be a cadaver dog.

These are highly trained, intelligent animals and they will come in handy if anyone in your family suddenly disappears.

The last cadaver dog I had didn't do anything but lay there. After awhile it started to smell. I'll never get another one of those.

What is Bomgaars? It looks suspiciously like Jim's Super Value.

We've now had over 10,000 hits on our "Jefferson Photo Archives" link which features old-time images of Jefferson.

This link is continually updated with new material.

I believe that GM should be allowed to fail on its own without a bailout. This would help to break the UAW hold on the United States automobile manufacturers and get it back in line with overseas competition. Once GM goes bankrupt and all contracts are nullified, regroup the automotive giant in a different context and let former employees apply for jobs at the new automaker and compete with others looking for work. If the UAW says who will make replacement parts & etc., you can get them from Japan or China or Mexico, where most of them are made anyway.

You can't just break the unions, Sarge. Think what that would do to all those workers and their families. They would go from 100k jobs to 40-50k jobs. Probably lose their homes, cars and everything.

Rick you need to get new wallpapers. The ones you have now stink.

In response to bbqking - the old courthouse was truly a remarkable building. Its dorian columns rose up to the full height of the building and it reminds one of a southern mansion in Charleston during the civil war era.

It is a shame that locals tore it down, indiscriminantly. This is the same fate that befell the old Baptist Church downtown on Lincolnway. Huge stained glass windows, and unique architectural designs were bulldozed in favor of a parking lot.

BBQKing: Bomgaars is a farm supply store. A small chain based out of Sioux City.

I watch Spike and a lot of the cop/ chase episode things they broadcast. Why do they think that 100 MPH is such a big deal? I thought that was the secret speed limit here in Atlanta. I was recently pulled over doing 82 in a 55 and got a warning. That was in the downtown connector, too, coming right off Peachtree in downtown. Anyone out there got a better break than that? It was at 4 in the morning, too.
