Jefferson has the huge advantage of location over Boone or Carroll. Jefferson is 30 miles closer to Ames and Des Moines than is Carroll. Jefferson is 30 miles closer to, uh, well, er, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Breda, Manning or anything other interesting location to the west.
The only location advantage Jefferson is that it is closer to DSM International Airport, and I actually have to call them on the "International" thing. When's the last time you caught a non-stop from DSM to Copenhagen? Or any foreign city, for that matter, unless you were in a UPS package?
As for DSM Airport calling themselves "International"...well they do have flights to Missouri...and it will be a cold day in Hell before I consider Missouri part of the United States!
I'm guessing Scranton will become an unincorporated community at some point in the near future. Their population was 529 as of July 2007, down from 604 in 2000. A few less people, then they save money by letting the county take care of things. With corn prices high, I'm sure there are several local farmers eyeing Scranton for future acreage.
Scranton has the oldest operating water tower in the state, built in 1897. I wouldn't be surprised if the ol' water tower isn't oversized for the population.

There's a lot less traffic. You don't have to look either way when crossing the street!
Take that Carroll, and Boone near Wal-Mart, for that matter.

I think we treat our illegal immigrants better than Carroll or Boone.

I think Jefferson compares rather nicely with Scranton. In fact, look closely at Scranton. That is how Jefferson will look in about 25 years.

I work in Boone - I'd take Jefferson over it ANY DAY
