Country Club Closing

Did the closing of the Greene County Golf and Country Club have any noticeable effect on the community or you in particular?

It really didn't affect me at all.

I heard that the new bunch of people were very unkempt, dirty and unruly, and seemed like a bunch of pig farmers.

In short, probably the same group of people that hung out there before.

The course membership that coined the phrase, "Hundred-Dollar Millionaire".

Does anybody out there know any history of the country club - when it was built, notable events, or what fees were charged?

I remember in the seventies Des Moines Register sketch artist Frank Miller drawing it and it subsequently appeared in the paper.

I don't know about the Country Club, sorry. I am pretty certain JSPC should easy defeat Carroll High tonight in football. I mean, seriously, does anyone think Carroll can score on JSPC? Not me. Ohhh...maybe really late in the game...long after the Rams have wrapped things up.

The Friday night game between Jefferson and Carroll was suspended shortly before halftime with Jefferson leading, 12-7.

It seems that there was a power outage and all of the lights went out (I'm not making this up). Apparently Elmer accidently unplugged something. Only in Jefferson.

The game will be completed at 1:00 Saturday afternoon. All of you hard-core football fans who are bored with the Iowa-ISU rivalry can tune it in on the Carroll radio channel.

The chamber may have thought it advantageous that Jefferson make the news. Otherwise, how does something like this happen?

Carroll brought some suspense this week. The Tigers trailed JSPC of Jefferson Friday night when the lights went out at the stadium. The game resumed on Saturday — still drawing about half the crowd despite the Iowa-Iowa State game being at the same time — and Carroll eventually won 20-12.

Jefferson is playing at Dallas Center Grimes tomorrow night.

I know nothing about that team, but hopefully we'll have a strong performance.

Maybe the lights will stay on.

The Rams left Dallas Center-Grimes with a 14-10 victory Friday night. Another low-scoring closely-contested struggle.

This evens our record at 2-2 and keeps alive faint playoff hopes. Next week is at Nevada.
