Do you remember when Deep Rock and Gulf had service stations in Jefferson? How many more gas stations can you name that once existed in town but are now closed?

Derby was where the ice cream shop is east of Slininger/Rossow's. Jim Ball, father of the Ball twins owned it. Were there any gas stations west of Lincolnway?
Apco used to be at the RR tracks on Hwy 4 on south east side. Now a car wash. Louk Plumbing sits on the site of the old Vickers station on Hwy 4. The REC center also sits on an old station property, although I cant recall the name at the moment. If the question was were any service stations located west of 4 on Lincolnway, I really doubt it. I will asko some ol timers.
I am pretty it was a DX station on the corner where the rec center is now located. I must have bought a hundred cans of Moutain Dew from the soda machine there.
I do not recall any gas stations on Licoln Way west of Highway 4.
Ball Oil was right across the street south of Carl's.Later he moved to the place across from the Jefferson Hatchery. That is the Vickers. The gas station @ the rec center location was Wallace's Standard Oil.
In the seventies, Ron's Standard stood where the rec center now is.
There was a Phillips 66 and a Gulf Station along the east side of Highway 4 a couple of blocks north of Lincolnway. There was some kind of Sinclair station or something diagonally across the intersection from where the rec center is. Maybe it was owned by Brett Durbin or maybe not.
There was a gas station at the corner of Wilson & Harrison [101 E. Harrison] for many years. It was right near the Green Gable Court which was owned by Guy Richardson, Sr. grandfather of Guy who is currently on the board of supervisors. I was told those cabins had been at Spring Lake and transported to that location. The gas station in my memory was run by the Pester family who later left Jefferson, but expanded and had many stations around Iowa. The name may have been Derby which was in Jefferson later. For many years it was owned and operated by Ken Peterson who later moved it to 600 N. Elm, the current location of Louk Plumbing. Orville Tesch ran an independent service station far east on Lincolnway. It was called TH Oil when his partner was Ralph Held. At one time they even drew tickets and gave away cars. Don's Radiator Service at 504 E. Lincolnway was the home of a service station run by Harvey Mitchell who did a lot of small engine repair. At one time it may have sold Standard products. Pete & Paul's [Pete Garrity & Paul McNulty] ran the service station at the corner of Cedar & Lincolnway. They sold Deep Rock products. Conoco products were sold at 300 E. Lincolnway where the current Casey's is located. It was run by Walt Walker which is directly East of the Can Redemption Center. The Sinclair station was run by Mike Beckner. Located at the NW corner of Locust & Lincolnway. Now the Can Redemption Center. Mike had run another station, possibly DX at 208 West Lincolnway where Peeps is now located. I recall another service station at 201 E. Lincolnway the current home of Advantage Insurance run by Dennis Goshon & Sheryl McDonald. It had been a car dealership run by Cal Duroe, later Morehead Motor Company [which caught fire and burned] The Twiins Shoppe [ice cream] located at 111 West Lincolnway was the home of the DX Station run by "Fat" Flack, who was an uncle to Pauline Richardson. Later it became the Derby Station. I can remember gas being priced at 29.9 when I was in high school. Just West was the Maid-Rite.
For many years the Standard Station was located at the SE corner of Highway [17] now 4 and Lincolnway. It was run by Don Knapper [Mrs. Bill [Mari-Ann] Limburg's father. At one time in the days of political appointments Don was appointed postmaster of Jefferson until the next election. The station was run for many years by Merv Wallace.
The current Peeps, 208 W. Lincolnway, NE corner was at one time a DX station run by Mike Beckner.
Long time gas station owner Russ Barrow, ran Barrow's Texaco at the NE corner of Highway 4 and Lincolnway. Later it became a place that sold Firestone Tires and repaired cars.
A-1 Service Center at 216 East State was the original home of Schaal Oil. It was actually a partnership called Schaal-Ames service station. I think they sold tires as well. The partner was Roscoe Ames. Later it became Strunk Tire.
When I was in grade school I recall a small little station at 115 West State where the Home State Bank is located. I think it sold gas, but my memory tells me they sold Hudson Cars as well. Across the street the Curtis family sold Kaiser, Frazier and Henry J cars.
Heading North on Elm, Highway 4, 303 N. Elm we find Carl Voigtman running Carl's Phillips 66 where they vacuumed out your car. He later sold it to Bob McCollom. Currently a Kum and Go Station run by Alan Eggers.
600 N. Elm, The Peterson Oil Company mentioned earlier run by Ken Peterson. [Formerly at 101 E. Harrison]
700 N. Elm, home of APCO run by Clyde Betts.
Schaal Oil was located for many years on Highway 30, currently the home of Sparky's One Stop at 606 Hwy 30 East.
West on Lincolnway: There was a service station [possibly Standard] where the Emerald Knoll Apartments are located at the SW corner of Grimmell & Lincolnway. As I recall they had a small restaurant there as well.
Much farther west, I think there was a service station at top of the hill near the Hillcrest motel. The motel was built later after the service station was out of business.
So, there you have my memories which are subject to correction.
Junior said There was a gas station at the corner of Lincolnway & Westwood where the Blue Apartments are now. It was on old Highway 30 at that time. It closed and Lee Murphy used it for his construction business. It went away after that. I don't remember the name of the station but due remember it being there. So there was one West on Lincolnway.

Were there any gas stations west of Lincolnway?
Was there one across from the hospital to the east?
Did Donnie Ott have pumps at his repair garage?
Since Lincolnway is an east-west street, I am having trouble figuring out this question.
There was a Vickers station west of highway 4, for what it's worth.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember a DX station standing where the current Shell station is.
Heather -
I discussed the location of the DX station with Rick Bland and we came up with that also.
So, how many gas station are there in Jefferson now?
Remember all the groceries stores we used to have? What different names did G & M have?
The grocery store topic is a really interesting one. Does anybody remember the old market that stood where the Uptown Cafe is now?
JTown has 2 Caseys, Shell (Peeps Stop), Kum n Go, as well as Sparkys out on 30 that was once the TH Cafe.

I remember G&M being called Dunn's, and United Foods before that.
Rick- I remember settling our differences beyond the old body shop just north of the middle school in that alley way too.
Of course, I remember. What's the matter - do you need me to kick your butt again?
This time I'll do it with my titanium foot.

There you have it. Voices from the past telling you the way it was.

Does anybody out there remember Paul White's Conoco Station?
